abinit-6.12.2 linking (?) problems
Posted: Fri Mar 23, 2012 5:43 pm
Dear all,
I am new to abinit thus please excuse me if I do something completely unreasonable.
I have a Linux machine (openSuSE 12.1, Intel Xeon architecture, gcc 4.6.2, gfortran 4.6). I have downloaded the abinit 6-12.2 tarball, unpacked it and executed ./configure. This is the (I suppose standard) output:
After that I executed make which, however, finished with following error:
When I tried to go to /home/david/software/abinit-6.12.2/fallbacks/sources/atompaw-3.0.1.3 and execute ./configure here, the script ends with:
This is strange as ../../exports/lib contains libblas.a and liblapack.a. Even if I try ./configure --with-linalg-libs="-L/home/david/software/abinit-6.12.2/fallbacks/exports/lib -lblas -llapack", the configure script still complains about not finding the linear algebra libraries.
Following some hints on this forum, I tried to disable AtomPAW, BigDFT, and Wannier90 by ./configure --with-dft-flavor="libxc" in the main abinit directory
Executing make results in further errors in compilation complaining about not finding libxc, libetsf_io and something more. The error appeared in compiling the module 98_main. Inspecting the Makefile I found that it searches for those libraries in ~abinit/fallbacks/export/lib instead of ~abinit/fallbacks/export/lib64, where they are really located. So, I simply copied the content of lib64 directory in lib, executed make again and this time got to the end of compilation!
I don't know whether there are some serious problem with the installation or only a small problem related to the specifics of my system, but I though I should let you know.
David
PS: About two weeks ago, I have performed similar task, that time on my private laptop (openSuSE 12.2 (32bit), gfortran + gcc) and all went smooth out from the box.

Suboptimal linear algebra configuration
+--------------------------------------------------------------+
You have decided to use the Abinit version of linear
algebra libraries (BLAS, LAPACK), which is a random mix of
routines coming from official Netlib versions ranging from
3.0 (released June 30, 1999) to 3.2 (released November 18,
2008). They were downloaded from http://www.netlib.org/.

The current version of Netlib's libraries is 3.4.0 (released
November 11, 2011). Since version 3.2, more than 60
significant bugs - including memory leaks - have been fixed,
various performance improvements have been made available,
and routine interfaces have been refactored.

Moreover, the Abinit version of the libraries rely on a
heavily modified build system and will be compiled with
build parameters optimized for Abinit, not for BLAS or
LAPACK. This might prove somewhat suboptimal or inadequate
on some computer architectures. Please note as well that the
Abinit test suite does not provide specific tests for linear
algebra.

By using the libraries provided by Abinit, you thus accept to
experience poor calculation performance, unlikely but possible
random crashes without error messages, and possibly inaccurate
results. However, if this is not what you intended
originally, you may instead select one of the various
optimized linear algebra implementations supported by
Abinit.

For production-grade calculations, you will find detailed
documentation on how to configure Abinit for optimized
linear algebra libraries in the "Linear algebra
connector" section of Abinit's config file template:
~abinit/doc/config/build-config.ac.

Do not hesitate to contact your system administrator in
case of doubt or if you need linear algebra libraries
installed into your local high-performance computing
environment.

You may now type "make" to build ABINIT.
(or, on a SMP machine, "make mj4", or "make multi multi_nprocs=<n>")
After that I executed make which, however, finished with following error:

This is strange as ../../exports/lib contains libblas.a and liblapack.a. Even if I try ./configure --with-linalg-libs="-L/home/david/software/abinit-6.12.2/fallbacks/exports/lib -lblas -llapack", the configure script still complains about not finding the linear algebra libraries.
Following some hints on this forum, I tried to disable AtomPAW, BigDFT, and Wannier90 by ./configure --with-dft-flavor="libxc" in the main abinit directory
Code: Select all
